About

K.Hands designs is owned and designed by Katie Hands. Born in Birmingham, Katie moved to County Clare as a child with her family. After many years travelling and working overseas, she returned home to Ennis and began designing and building her small business.

“I have loved jewellery for as long as I can remember, I vividly remember being given a gold bangle at 6 years old which extended as you put it on your wrist, I used to marvel at how clever and beautiful I thought it was, a real treasure! I would also sit at my moms dressing table, trying on all of her rings and necklaces, and admiring their beauty, it is something I would never tire of. I have loved jewellery for as long as I can remember and through my pieces, I want to spark that love in everybody else.

After finishing school, I was lucky enough to achieve my dream of becoming a professional Irish Dancer with Riverdance, and I went on tour with the show, travelling throughout Europe, North America, Canada and China. In each city we travelled to, we were able to take in all it had to offer and visit museums and exhibitions. I would wonder through the streets or in and out of shops taking in all of the culture and character each new place had. I loved experiencing the difference in style, design and architecture. I think this gave me my eye for detail and passion for unique design, which I carry into everything I create.

When I retired from touring, I went to live in Australia and New Zealand and worked for both high-end and fashion jewellery retailers. I loved watching people try on and buy pieces and somehow make them their own.

When covid hit, I happened to be in Bali, Indonesia and I started to learn to make jewellery, something I had always dreamt of doing but never seemed to find the time for. Silver smithing in Bali is rich in tradition and the skill and passion the balinese have for jewellery making is inspiring. I learnt so much during this time.

Upon returning to Ireland, I began designing my first collection. My pieces are inspired by my travels all over the world, but also by the rugged and wild landscape of the west coast of Clare.

I strive to mix simplicity with individuality when designing, creating pieces that people will never want to take off. I love to hear people say they haven’t seen anything like my jewellery before, it's the ultimate compliment. It entices me to keep thinking outside the box and to continue reimagining and redefining my designs.

There is something about jewellery that is so unique to the individual wearing it. I have seen my pieces come to life on people of all genders, ages, shapes and sizes and this is what makes jewellery so special to me. My pieces are intended to be worn and styled however the wearer feels right.

Made to order, my pieces can take 3-4 weeks to arrive, however this approach is a conscious one and limits excess waste, which we see all too much of in modern society. My aim is to create beautiful, artisanal pieces that will stand the test of time.”

Thank you for your support. I hope you love your pieces for many years to come.
